ExoReef Trial Deployment

Problem
When Exo Engineering began to develop our ExoReef product family, we had only academic studies to use as inspiration. We knew that it would be possible to combine our GeoBlock technology into a habitat enhancing unit, and this was our first go.
Solution
In September 2021 we deployed our novel ExoReef units in the Crouch Estuary, close to Gunfleet Sands Offshore Windfarm off the Essex coast. The aim of this trial was to assess the impact of scour on our technology when deployed in a natural environment and to examine the biodiversity contributions from the units.
Findings
This project has provided us evidence of the effectiveness our Greening the Grey® technology, building upon the success of the laboratory testing of these products with the University of Southampton and representing another success in our product development timeline.
Since this deployment, we have continually worked to maximise the complexity of our solutions without creating additional deployment considerations. Check out some of our latest deployments to see how far we’ve come!
