Integrated Greening of Grey Infrastructure
We pride ourselves in providing clients with solutions which fulfil their conservation targets and meet engineering standards.
However, by using Nature Inclusive Design, BNG targets can be seamlessly met. Integrated Greening of Grey Infrastructure (IGGI) refers to improving the ecological value of coastal infrastructure by considering nature within the design process. This approach is becoming more important for hard infrastructure developments which cannot use green or blue-green solutions such as wetlands.
Exo Engineering use a combination of GeoBlock® and our aptly named Greening the Grey® textures, with 10 years of product research already completed to ensure their benefits and adaptability. Through the use of conservation research, we can ensure that our products meet IGGI and engineering requirements, offering maximum benefits for both people and nature.
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) legislation became a legal requirement at the beginning of 2024 for almost all development projects in England. To comply with BNG requirements, developers must achieve a minimum 10% increase in biodiversity through habitat creation, enhancement, or through the purchase of biodiversity credits.
The use of traditional hard engineering methods represents poor opportunities for biodiversity, as it lacks the necessary complexity to offer a range of habitats for coastal species.
