Problem

Although rockpools occur naturally along our coastlines, expanding coastal communities and rising sea levels pose significant threats to these precious habitats. Fragmentation of rocky intertidal environments has causes a decrease in the abundance of species and their gene pools, reducing resilience to disease and climate changes.

Solution

Our ExoPool design mimics natural habitats such as overhangs, large pools for constant water retention, and a variety of textures for various coastal species to establish. Exo Engineering are able to tailor our designs to local areas, replicating the natural textures and habitats which are found at the project location.

Results

The final product is a specialised unit which is capable of encouraging increased biodiversity along our coasts whilst providing coastal protection. The variety of features which can be included in our ExoPool represents a unique opportunity for our clients to customise the units to satisfy project requirements, whilst involving coastal communities to raise awareness about the benefits of nature-inclusive design within coastal protection.
