On the 16th of February, we attended the AIP (Algae Innovation Platform) showcase event hosted at Hethel Engineering Centre. This was the first in-person event the AIP has hosted and provided us with the chance to sample local and national seaweed products! The talks from Norfolk Seaweed, S.A.C. Consulting and University of East Anglia showcased the groups’ successes, uses of macro and micro algae and the potential for local industry expansion. Innovations are being implemented at every stage of production forming a budding industry utilizing the latest data from environmental research to artificial intelligence.

Algae is frequently promoted as a more eco-friendly, sustainable option to other carbon fixing and oxygen producing processes, and has a variety of uses including biofuels, food and drink, bioplastics, and cosmetics. We discussed the up-scaling process, impacts on the environment, processing procedures and current consumer knowledge, providing a view of how developing this industry can provide a stable income for many in East Anglia in the coming years.

This sector is expected to expand rapidly and here at Exo Engineering, we are hoping to begin development on concepts that assist farmers in reaching biodiversity net gain using our unique concepts and materials.
