Discussing our 16-tonne pilot deployment at the Marine Energy Wales Conference 2024
On the 13th and 14th of March, Swansea Arena saw the return of the Marine Energy Wales conference. This 2-day event brought together a wide range of industry leaders, academics, and innovators to encourage discussion about the future of marine renewable energy in Wales.
Exo Engineering’s Will Melhuish was invited to contribute to the discussion around achieving Environmental Gain alongside marine renewable energy generation. One of the ways we can achieve this is by adopting Nature Inclusive Solutions at marine energy sites, such as those deployed by Exo Engineering as part of our September 2023 deployment of our ExoReef units.
Wales is perfectly placed to take advantage of the abundant potential for offshore marine renewable energy generation. Many organisations are working hard to do just this, but some significant barriers stand in the way. Marine Energy Wales and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum are helping to overcome the complex process of permit and licence applications with their pre-consented Marine Energy Test Areas (META) sites in Pembrokeshire. Exo Engineering are using one of these sites to test a variety of our ExoReef units, which seek to enhance biodiversity whilst protecting crucial offshore infrastructure such as cable routes and turbine foundations.
We are incredibly grateful to have attended alongside so many other brilliant organisations who are all so passionate about supporting Wales’s ambition to harness renewable energy. We want to say a big thank you to Marine Energy Wales for having us, to all of those involved with organising the conference, and to all of the attendees who took the time to speak with us.
Do you see a place for Nature Inclusive Solutions as part of your marine project? We’d love to hear more, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
