Is the USA about to Begin its Offshore Wind energy boom?

An offshore wind farm silhouetted against a red sunset, taken from the beach

The USA has been slow to develop its renewable energy market, lagging behind the UK in both site development and green energy usage in the grid. However, this is set to change as the US announces its aim to produce 30GW of renewable energy solely from offshore wind farms by 2030 and an additional 15GW from floating offshore wind farms by 2035, a massive feat! It is hoped that this will result in an influx of jobs throughout many sectors, such as in turbine component production, installation, and ongoing monitoring of pylons and the marine environment. As of last year, nine offshore wind farm leases have been secured for development around the North American coast.

As development continues, we will be eagerly watching how the US navigates the utilisation of multi-use spaces within its near-shore wind farms and continues the development of innovative floating wind turbines.

This is an exciting time for international offshore wind developers and innovators, as we seek to grow together and create a thriving international market. We look forward to watching this market develop and use knowledge gained from European and Asian installations and developments over the last 20-30 years to create sustainable and environmentally conscious farms.
